I am dealing with a residential energy credit for the first time this year. Specifically, my client purchased qualifying windows. My question is: is it correct that only the cost of the windows, and not the cost of the installation, is a qualifying cost? Also, is the sales tax paid for the windows included in the qualifying cost. My client received a statement from the place they purchased the windows in which the cost of the windows was shown without sales tax. Price before tax: $1,662 (labor not included). Price with tax: $1,784. Which figure is the 10% credit based on? And, is it correct to not include the cost of labor? Thanks for any help offered.
