I got a nasty call from the IRS on a new clients that had been filing 941, but told by IRS to file 944.

The Cinci office says that they cannot and will not accept the 941's and need to file the 944 for 2007 and 2008. Any idea on how best handle the deposits made for years 2007/2008.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks

you might find that the IRS has already moved the payments to the taxpayer's 944 account.

I agree this is a PITA.

File the 944s then file Forms 941-X and request that any payments be transfered to the 944 liability. This will be acomplished with no change in the posting date.
