Editing hints

Hi, when you edit a post, be sure to avoid any changes to the squiggly brackets at the beginning and the end of the post. They tell the system how to format the discussion posts. Also, all of the info at the start of the post (the stuff between the double squiggly brackets and the "text=" part) is very important and shouldn't be removed. After all, you'd like your post to identify when it was posted and who it was posted by, right? That info is also used to sort discussions into the tax forum index, in addition to being valuable to those who might respond to the post.

Rudy

Ok, just got off the phone with Rudy. Trying to figure it out. He's only had offices here in Coby, he is currently in Colonie, he bought a practice from Middleburgh, but relocated that to Schoharie.

I am definitely going to need more info.

Practice management forum

I've shifted your E-file tracking discussion over from the tax forum to the practice management/business growth forum. Since it's not a technical tax question, and is a practice management issue, it's probably the better place for it. But also, there are several users who participate only in the PM/BG forum, and moving it now gives you a chance to get input from them, in addition to the responses you received while your question was in the tax forum.

Discussion Forum Index shows what topics end up where, but I'm aware that there are some overlaps, and also some people really like their quesitons to start out on the tax forum no matter what the topic - especially those who started with TaxAlmanac prior to the PM/BG forum attaining its current status (sometimes there's more activity there than on the tax site, these day). So that's why I left it where you'd started it for a couple of days.

Website

Hey,

I have decided to go with CPA Site Solutions for my website. After I had spoken with Chris and had received his hello email, they indicated they have a referral program. I told him the only reason I chose them was because of the recommendation given by you and NewYorkEA. A referral fee of $100 is given.

I checked with NewYorkEA first since he/she mentioned it first but he doesn't use them anymore. So, you're next in the que, so, if you wish the referral, I am more than happy to attribute it to you.

You'd just need to end the mystery. ;-)

email

TA,

Yeah, I figure might as well get you the $100 referral card.

My email listed on my website is the general email. Substitute fred for info and it goes straight to me.

Hi Taxalmancer,

Did you ever get a satisfactory answer on where to put your Rent-to-Own income? I would like to know the same thing.

The assets are fixed assets and not inventory (as defined by the code)...so I would think it would go on Form 4797. What do you think?

Thanks, Lively

SALE OF PERSONAL GOODWILL

In May of 2011 in Texas, a client sold a distributorship and part of the sales proceeds was allocated to her as personal goodwill and a covenant not to compete with the remaining proceeds allocated to the corporation - part inventory, assets and the remaining business goodwill. The client, a lady, ran the distributorship for 15 years, attended all national sales meetings, and a valuation was done for her personal goodwill prior to the sale. Her husband died 11/13/10. It has been suggested that her personal goodwill was community property and therefore a step up in basis is justified to reduce HER PERSONAL GOODWILL TO 1/2 of the proceeds she received. I cannot quite make this leap and wondered if you had any opinion thereon.

User page info

I saw that you've just edited your user page so that it doesn't provide very much info beyond your credential. While your long user history should obviate the need for a lot of info (and probably will, for other members who have been around long enough), any new users who don't recognize your user name are going to expect to find something about your level of experience as a tax pro there. I'm not sure why you wanted to shorten it up, but it'd probably be a good idea just to toss something in there about your tax practice. Thanks. Trillium 14:44, 1 April 2012 (UTC)

Fujitsu

How much do you like the bigger scanner?

I mean we just added a 2nd Scansnap1500, wondering whether the extra money for the "more industrial" version is better. The first Scansanp1500 is in it's 3rd full tax season. 700+ clients scanned thru each year. We added a 2nd one this year and had the older one cleaned up. Both are awesome.

So, should my next version be the upgrade?
