Welcome

Hello, and welcome to TaxAlmanac! My name is Tim Doyle and I serve here in the role of TaxAlmanac Moderator. If you haven't done so already, you might want to review our Quick Start Guide to help you get oriented.

As you begin to interact on TaxAlmanac, your changes will be linked to your personal user page. We encourage you to edit this page and add a short description about yourself. This will allow others to better understand your background and qualifications as they review any replies or information that you submit.

We also suggest that you introduce yourself to the other members of the TaxAlmanac community on the User Introduction Discussion Forum.

If you can think of anything we can do to make TaxAlmanac a more useful resource to you, please feel free to give us your feedback on the TaxAlmanac Feedback Discussion Forum.

I hope you enjoy being a member of the TaxAlmanac community! If you have any questions, see the help pages or ask me on my talk page. Again, welcome!

So, what did I say that offended you? You said that folks shouldn't disagree with me. While I am competitive and like to be right, I think I've been wrong far more often here. It's been humbling to learn all that I don't know...JR1 09:11, 21 April 2006 (CDT)

You meant it seriously? Wow. Well, Riley's the only guy who's not been wrong yet. I better watch what I say or I'll mislead you for sure! Thanks for clarification...but you're wrong! Ha Ha. Like I said, I'm really hesitant now, seeing how many times I've been wrong. Or incomplete anyway...

Your User Page

Ishaq:

I think you may have been confusing your user page with your introduction in the discussion forum. Both are great places to tell the TaxAlmanac community about yourself. The User Introduction Discussion Forum is where you can quickly introduce yourself, but it doesn't offer a long-term way for people to find out about you. Your user page is linked from each post you make in the discussion forum and is a great place to tell more about yourself, etc.

As far as not receiving a welcome message from me, I actually posted a welcome message to you on 2/9/2006 (at the top of this page). I do not always reply to the User Introduction Discussion Forum as I hope that other members of the community will jump in and welcoem new users there.

To update your profile, simply click on your user name at the very top line of any TaxAlmanac page and then edit that page. If you need additional instructions, just let me know.

Thank you for the great comment about how you think I am doing here - I appreciate that!

Mandatory Profile

> First of all let me thank you for doing such a wonderful job maintaining "TaxAlmanac."

Thank you!!!

> Make profile mandatory to use this site. Without a profile it is very difficult to know expertise of the user.

I agree. At this time I am relying on the community to urge others to fill in their profiles. Making it mandatory would require programming changes, and with so many enhancements suggested, we have to make sure we allocate them to the most important issues. Also, even if we did mandate that people fill their profiles in, they could still fill it in with useless information.

>Add a column "Original Post Date."

Funny as it sounds, this information is not easy to get to on the forum index page and would also require programming changes. I'll add that to our suggested enhancements list though.

Thank you!

lifetime learnign credit

I have a client who is getting a second degree. He is considered to be in his second year. Can I use the Hope credit for a second degree? ProSeries wants me to use the lifetime learning credit since it higher than the hope.

Thanks, Kim

The best way to do this is to click on the history tab at the top of the page and look for the last person that made an edit. You can also click "last" next to each entry to see what that person did. By doing this, I can see that "Busbuilder" is the person you're looking for. The history tab also gives you a link to that person's page so you can contact them.

Easter Greeting

Ishaq - Thank you for your Easter greeting. I wanted to say that the Catholic Church (of which I am a member) has tried for many years to seek reconciliation with the Jewish faith and seek forgiveness for the fact that for too many years we have wrongly cast the Jewish people in a negative light for their role in Jesus' death. Jesus, his mother, father and disciples, as you and I both know, were all Jewish. Pope John Paul II tried to seek reconciliation with Jewish leaders. It is most unfortunate that many Christians have failed in their efforts to understand that concept. My priest friends and clients all teach and instruct their faithful that it was the Roman government who carried out his crucifixion, not the Jewish people and that's what I was taught by my parents and religious teachers. It is my sincere hope that someday, those Christians who continue to harbor resentment towards the Jewish people will understand this and overcome their enmity towards the Jewish people. Shalom. Ishaq, I'm no Retirement expert, so hoping someone else will better answer, but I'm real sure that he's in trouble over the 9k. Now, in my opinion, if he gets it out of there, I wouldn't sweat it, even if he's a day or two late, he's met the spirit of the thing. Jeff JR1 17:00, 16 April 2008 (CDT)

Finding what changed in a discussion

Hi, I'm responding to the question you left for Tim Doyle last night. The discussion you referenced was moved from the tax forum to the Business Growth Community, and that change was what triggered the e-mail to you. We're trying to separate the actual tax questions from the practice management and business growth discussions, including those for return organization/management, software (e.g., using pdf), CPE/licensing, fees, etc. (You can find a more complete list in the description of the BG forum on the Discussion forum.)

In case this happens again in the future, the easiest way for you to tell what the latest changes are on a discussion is to click on the "history" tab at the top of the discussion page. It'll show you who made the change, and will often provide you a short recap/summary of the change.

If you would like more info, please let me (or Tim) know.

Thanks,
