Welcome to TaxAlmanac

Hi, and welcome to TaxAlmanac, the online research resource and community for tax professionals.

Thanks for being interested in participating in the discussions on the site. We like to feel like a community here, so I hope you’ll add a little info to your user page / profile to give some info about your background/level of experience as a tax preparer, and (quite secondary) maybe even some of the other info as shown in the boilerplate language. Other users can then click on your name in any discussion for a quick way to get to know you a little. That will help put your posts into context, relative to your level of experience and/or areas of specialization.

Here are some great resources for getting to know TaxAlmanac if you’re new to the site: Policies, Code of Conduct, FAQ, an Overview of TaxAlmanac, and Hints and Tips on How to Search on TaxAlmanac.

David555 –

Please update your user page to indicate your level of experience and background as a tax pro, and any applicable credentials as well, before adding any additional posts to discussions on the tax forum. If you do not do this, your posts are at risk of being moved to the consumer forum or deleted, as stated in the notice box at the top of the forum (in pink). If you are not a tax professional, then please pose your questions to your tax advisor, or on a website that invites non-pros to participate, too, such as the TurboTax community, or fairmark. Thank you.

Copyright violation?

Your two most recents edit to your "donation of inventory" discussion appears to include material that is copyrighted elsewhere and therefore should not be reproduced here (you get Taxalmanac.org in trouble that way!). You can see the policies here: copyright terms (bullet 1). (It's not just the "observations" by the way, it's all of the info that you would have gotten from RIA - analysis, etc.)

It'd be great if you would please re-edit your post to remove the copyrighted info and just relay the gist of what you were trying to get across.

Thanks,

Looks like I missed you

My note was posted just minutes after you finished your last edit of the discussion I mentioned above, but it looks like you didn't see it before you moved on to other things. Therefore, I've gone ahead and removed the info that was copied/pasted from RIA, and have also restored the post formatting. For future reference when you edit, never remove the double squiggly brackets at start or end of the post, or any of the stuff at the beginning between the squiggly brackets and where it says "text=" (that's what tells the post how to be formatted).

I also noticed that your latest edit didn't actually have a question anymore, it just said you intended to deduct donated inventory without an appraisal. Well, I guess that's an implied invitation for others to ask you why, but I thought it made sense to add back the question you'd originally asked after your Pub 561 excerpt.

You can, of course, continue to edit the post as necessary, and if you do so please feel free to remove my entire parenthetical paragraph if you end up putting the Pub 561 info, or a recap of the RIA info in your own words, into the post instead.

Again, the copyright policies are shown in the TOC - click "Website Use and Contribution Terms" toward the top right of the page, or the link I provided you with earlier. There's also a little more info provided at the bottom of this help page.

The post regarding the donation of inventory with cost of $50,000 was mostly deleted. What was the final result? Cvmwcpa 20:57, 27 February 2012 (UTC)CWelch
