Client Referrals
Hi,
I noticed a posting that you had some time ago on a topic of growing an accounting firm. You had mentioned that you use a referral discount for current clients that refer new clients to you. I just started my own CPA firm a few months ago and had a couple of questions about this process. How do you track these referrals? Another words if a client refers 2 new accounts to you (assuming they are individuals) do you take the discount of the following years return? How did you originally communicate this referral program to your clients?
Thanks for your advice. I am in a small town similar to the size of yours and this looks like a program that I might consider implementing going forward. Clients love receiving something free or at a discount.
Thanks, Ryan
EA Journal
I can't find on online source for the EA journal article I mentioned in the discussion on transportation taxation. I could fax it to you if you would like. It is six or seven pages.

Tobacco Quota Buyout
Acctax: I filed schedule f showing the gross 1099-S proceeds under line 6A as payments received and then entered 1/10th of that amount on line 6B of schedule F as taxable for tax year 2005 which was the first year of the 1/10th payment to me. I think I should have used form 6252 installment sale income. My question is that since I did not elect out of the installment sale income and since I did not report the entire gain in the tax year 2005, how do I straighten this out to amend my return to show the installment portion of the long term capital gain through form 6252, 4797 and Schedule D? The IRS instructions say I have to request permission from the IRS since I effectively revoked my option to recognize all of the gain in 2005 and I think I understand I also have to have permission to amend using form 6252 installment sale income. What are you ideas, thoughts, suggestions? Thanks. JFMcGuire

I hope you didn't take my response to your question the wrong way. After I say your reply, I re-read the post. What I was trying to get across is that it was not necessary to look at a QBs forum for the answer.Natalie 22:15, 6 April 2008 (CDT)Natalie
I'm glad you understand, Dar. I'll try to watch the words I use.Natalie 02:03, 7 April 2008 (CDT)Natalie
