One monster is the discussion forums, which have swamped the Wiki on TaxAlmanac. Who knew?

The other monster is there's now a very smart and well-informed contributor who (speaking only for myself) squelches my contributions. (The same thing happened over a year ago on the Quicken forums. It appears to be inevitable.) I now know not to answer any questions, but rather to wait a day or two, and a much more eager, and apparently knowledgable, contributor will do it for me. Only if time passes without response from that contributor will I dare to respond.

I did enjoy being an early contributor to TaxAlmanac.

Rlw:

We're actually excited to see the volume of discussions in the new discussion forums. While it may seem as if this area has swamped the wiki portion of the site, we're happy that tax preparers have found the discussion forums to be a valuable way to exchange information that they find useful. However, that doesn't mean that we've changed our vision for what TaxAlmanac will eventually be. We still anticipate that the newly forming TaxAlmanac community will begin to add articles and other information outside of the discussions. We want this to be a rich resource - but we also want the TaxAlmanac community to have a sense of ownership in the site. We're looking for people to take the initiative and jump in to help. One of the things that we've learned with the discussions is that when we made it very easy for people to post questions and replies, usage skyrocketed. We're currently looking into ways in which we can make it just as easy to add articles and other content to the site. If you are (or anyone else reading this is) interested in helping build TaxAlmanac outside the discussion forums, please let me know!

I understand that when people of various knowledge levels come together that it can be difficult to figure out how everyone fits in to work together as a team. I'm sorry you have felt that your contributions have felt squelched! That's certainly not what we want you to feel. If anyone is ever inappropriate in their responses, I will of course step in. For now, I encourage you to work with me to figure out a way we can grow TaxAlmanac. Perhaps there are other areas which you will enjoy and add great value.

It's OK. I've just had to switch from Zen Master mode to Grasshopper mode. If you're old enough to get that reference. :) I'm happy to be learning more and contributing less.
