TA seems to have stopped recording 'views' of discussions. We have a number of replies but no one has read them. Huh?

The maintenance that Tim and his team did last week was meant to resolve a few recent issues with the site (e.g., Harry and others getting "permission error" messages when they try to leave a note on a talk page or edit an article, and Wiles and others having log-in issues). One of the things they did was turn off some of the "counters" that show how many hits a page gets, as the counters may have been negatively affecting site efficiency.

When the counters on the discussion pages aren't updating, then the # views column on the discussion index will show zero (or whatever the count was on the day of the maintenance), forever. Kevin posted a note on Tim's talk page about this last week, and Tim responded that he'd see what he could do about that. That info can be very useful, so I do hope we get it back in one form or another.

I'd guess that the discussion page counters will remain off until the next evening maintenance, at which time they'll be trying other things to fix the underlying problems.

On the positive side, for the past few months, the search function was providing only a subset of the full search results if you searched on "S corp" or "RE in a corp" or any other search term that had a hyphen or a one- or two-character string inside quotes, and that's now back to the way it had previously worked. A search on "S corp" will, once again, find zillions of discussions.

But does Harry still have permission? Is there a vote? LOL.

I have never watched the View, nor do I intend to, from what I have gathered just from the news around the View is that it is idiotic.

I think you're on a different channel, Fred.

That's probably where Crow gets his current event info, so let's be kind.

I WAS being kind, JR. According to its home page, The View consists of hot topics in the news, and the best experts in their field. With all those women on that show, I'm surprised he hasn't seen it before.

I was kidding. I'm with Fred. It's wretched and unfair and unbalanced on every level. The libs talk about Fox like it's mean spirited. Has anyone ever listened to the poison these women spew?

There, I said it. Now, since I believe in apologizing early and often, and at times, in advance...if someone is offended, I'm sorry. I've never seen or heard anything more hateful than that, tho'.

Oh. Well, I haven't seen it, and it sounds like a good thing (that I haven't).

JR1 - Agree with you about The View. At first I was excited about the new show featuring accomplished women discussing stuff, but then upon watching it I found it toxic.

But, GO STEELERS!!!!!!!

Maybe they'd do better if they pushed buying silver, as a counterpoint to that guy who pushes gold on that other non-subjective show.

Right you are, Death&Taxes - I would think the pundits would realize that they are judged by the advertisers who support them.

UPDATE -

Looks like we've got our "number of views" turned back on, now, on the forum indexes. So now those of you who think nobody's reading your discussion can be happy again, watching the # views increase, and those of you who wonder why so few people post responses relative to the number who read your discussion can now go back to being worried. Hooray!
