After a several year delay, the TaxAlmanac Top Contributors list has once again been updated. Where do you stand? Are you a Bronze, Silver, Gold, or perhaps Platinum contributor? While purely for entertainment, the top contributors page can give you a sense of where you rank among your peers in number of posts to TaxAlmanac. They can also be used to determine which users are the most active, which could help when assessing answers to your questions.

Are there any valuable prizes i.e PBR for top contributors?

Beaten out only by an Intuit employee - impressive, Kevin. Proof positive of the asset you are to TA. Thanks!

Hey, JR you're no slacker yourself.

(I'm going to get busy, I'm hot on Fred's tail and just barely ahead of Barb....have to say that surprises me.)

THAT'S CHEATING !!!

To be fair, all of Riley's personalities should be aggregated, as well as all of CrowJD and Jeff-Ohio's split personalities.

Belle, you can come for my tail any day you want. <EG>

Fsteincpa (talk|edits) said:

But, remember, if you get ahead of me, I'll then be chasing some tail.

Hey, maybe Kevin's a robot.

Belle (talk|edits) said:

LOL, Fred

(I'm only surprised you took so long to respond !)

JR1 (talk|edits) said:

I was waiting for that one.

And indeed, if you took all of Crow's personalities (and I thought I had issues), you'd have....well nuttin' anyway!

Now, if you took all of his actual legal answers, to which we are exceedingly grateful, he's got, what...maybe 5?

Tax Writer (talk|edits) said:

Aw, give Crow a break. You can't be an attorney without being a little crazy. Plus, I don't think they should count all of Kevin's posts. Half of them just tell noobs to search the yellow box, or fill out their damn profile. I know, because he scared me a tiny bit when I first joined up. Scared. Just a wee bit, though.

Belle (talk|edits) said:

August 17, 2010
BTW - thanks Tim. This is fun.

You will notice fewer infidels getting past the gate than before my and Trillium's watch, though, Tax Writer.

Death&Taxes (talk|edits) said:

Willya look at that Harry Boscoe fellow? He is coming up fast and has a secret ingredient, for you can never answer one of Harry's questions!

Actionbsns (talk|edits) said:

18 August 2010
Thanks Tim. Now we should go back and find out what happened to some of those people. For instance, I always like the poster "Albundy". I don't remember any particularly memorable post, but just the name was really audacious. What happened to him? Did he end up lost in the world of shoes or something? And I don't see the BeetleFred guy in there. I can't believe I have more posts than Riley. Mine must be more drivel, his are clearly not drivel. Trillium and Kevin and Natalie and all the posters in the Platinum hall of fame - many thanks for all the help and knowlege you've shared over the years.

Belle (talk|edits) said:

August 18, 2010
Rather than drivel( which your posts aren't, Paula), a segregation into questions asked vs. questions answered would be interesting. Bet you can count the questions asked by the Platinum group on just your fingers and toes.

Wiles (talk|edits) said:

I know Intuit is just a small little software company without much of a technology budget, but this is where the thumbs up/down or 5-star ranking on posts would give some more depth to these numbers.

Tim, interesting data. Thank you for compiling this. Now I see where my non-chargeable time goes.

DaveFogel (talk|edits) said:

As a relative newbie, I see that I only have 3,567 more posts to achieve Platinum status!

Actionbsns (talk|edits) said:

18 August 2010
Dave, if our clients keep getting 1099A's and C's, you'll be Platinum status in no time!!! Thanks to you for your help as well as the platinums.

Belle (talk|edits) said:

August 18, 2010
Dave, in terms of quality posts, you are already there.

Another interesting stat would be average posts per day (or week).

Tax Writer (talk|edits) said:

18 August 2010
"Dave, in terms of quality posts, you are already there."

I second that emotion. I always look for Katie's posts, too-- her posts are always fantastic.

Kevinh5 (talk|edits) said:

18 August 2010
Again, in all fairness, if it weren't for all of the questions asked (by many bronze, silver and maybe even gold members), no one would be Platinum. Thus it is true to say "We couldn't have done it without all of you." Thanks then, to all those posting questions, after using the yellow search box.

I believe that TypoCop and SpellCzech's edits are not actual posts, thus not material. Otherwise, that was a very good question, Kevin. Thanks for asking.

Death&Taxes (talk|edits) said:

And where did Beatle Fred go?

Kevinh5 (talk|edits) said:

18 August 2010
Bracket Creep got him

(better than an attack from SpellCzech, I suppose)

Belle (talk|edits) said:

August 18, 2010
BeatleFred only had 57 posts; the list stops starts at 100.

GrammarPolice deserves some credit also.

Wow, there's really someone named Bracket Creep? You do need to fill in your profile. We need to know more about you.

Bracket Creep (talk|edits) said:

I think we now know too much about Mr. Creep.

Wiles (talk|edits) said:

You can't just assume that Bracket Creep is the man in the picture.

BTW, When is the forum police going to move this thread to the Chat page?

Actionbsns (talk|edits) said:

18 August 2010
OK, that was rather unpleasant. Maybe Bracket needs to go look for Beattle Fred and Albundy.

Szptax (talk|edits) said:

18 August 2010
that explains the "creep", but not the bracket part of the name

LH2004 (talk|edits) said:

Careful. Once your post count exceeds the 15% bracket, Tdoyle starts deleting 25% of your posts.

So how come some "Gold Contributors" don't have the designation?

Just wondering?

Kevinh5 (talk|edits) said:

Anyone who qualifies and wants the designation on their user page, please leave me a message on my talk page. Tom, look again. Kevinh5

I think that requires the shipment of a single malt to somewhere in NC.

Kevinh5 (talk|edits) said:

One should never underestimate the generosity of fellow TaxAlmanacers. In the past, I have received numerous gifts from those I have presumably helped or made tax season a little lighter, including Kona coffee, Thin Mint Girl Scout cookies, and even the invitation to join in a hike up a volcano. I have had a CPA send me a nice bottle of single malt scotch three years ago. Hopefully he billed his client for the 'research fee'.

Taocpa (talk|edits) said:

Kevin,

Thanks. I really wasn't doing it for me, but there are countless others who didn't have it. Frankly, for me, it's nice, but my contributions aren't of the quality that so many others have posted.

Kevinh5:

Just curious, will you be removing, or downgrading the designation symbol on those people who were gold and silver or bronze contributors under the old count levels, but have been demoted under the new bracket cut offs?

Kevinh5 (talk|edits) said:

19 August 2010
I just finished with the Gold contributors. Yes, I did 'downgrade' those who no longer meet the new criteria, but felt a bit of remorse for doing so. Should someone who was once 'gold' or 'platinum' but now doesn't qualify for that designation relinquish their prior title? Did Vanessa Williams have to give up her Miss America title? Who remembers the one who was crowned Miss America because of that?

Kevinh5 (talk|edits) said:

(Last week while staying at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino for the NAEA NTPI/Conference, I went in to the buffet line just as the Miss Universe contestants were leaving. There was plenty of food left, I am happy to report.)

Natalie (talk|edits) said:

August 19, 2010
Thanks for the user-page updates, Kevin. I would guess that the people who were downgraded haven't posted in a while. I agree with you, Kevin. I don't think that should mean their status should be demoted. Perhaps a different category is in order.

Hey, maybe there can be another ranking where the users of TaxAlmanac vote for the most helpful contributors....

Kevinh5 (talk|edits) said:

19 August 2010
Lavla, any user may award a Barnstar (the one on the right) to any other user:
Forum Award
This user has been recognized as a top contributor of high-quality replies in the TaxAlmanac Discussion Forum.

The Barnstar Award should be given to those whose help has been particularly good. Post it on their User profile page.

Thank you Kevin. I just checked a few that deserve it, and they all have the award. Good job!
