This is really for newbies, but just a friendly reminder for most, to make sure to fill out your profile.
For the many of us who come here who use this site to ask and answer legitimate questions, can you please assist us by at least telling us a little something about yourself? Just fill out a little information on your profile page. You don't have to tell us your life story. Just a first name, whether your are a CPA, EA, PTP, H&R, Liberty, JH Employee, whatever, years of experience, something would be nice. I say this because too many of do-it-yourselfer's are polluting the board as well as tax/accounting students with questions. We want to separate the wheat from the chaff. Now, many of you state, "I don't have time to fill out a profile." Nonsense. If you have time to ask a question, you can take five minutes to fill out a profile. I will show you how to do it, even though the instructions are right on the site: 1. At the upper part of the site, you will see your user name after you have joined and logged in. It should be just to the right of the center of the page. Click there. 2. Your User Page comes up. Click on the tab labeled "Edit this Page." Now you can delete all that stuff there. 3. Type in what ever you feel like. For example: "Jane, Washington State, EA, CPA, Preparing over 20 years." You can also add that designation to your site by typing that information into your user page at the end. See this on how to do it: Communities & Designations 4. At the bottom of the page, Save it by clicking on "Save Page." Now that wasn't so hard, was it? You can always add to it later. But for right now, that gets you started and keeps us from coming after back asking you to fill one out. Most likely you will incur the wrath of us for not filling out your profile. It expends needless energy when we can cooperate and get along, share pertinent information, tell jokes, stories and assist each other as professionals. Please cooperate and we will all get along in the sandbox just nicely. Tom |

Yeah, and not only that but as soon as you register your profile you, too, can be a full-fledged member of the sandbox police! :) |

I registered, finally. Now that I'm a member of this "sandbox" when will my membership packet come? |

John, you didn't get one? It's supposed to automatically be sent when you hit the save button. We'll have to get Tim to take a look at that. |

I only cleaned up the part where the thread had been hijacked by a DIYer and others who were asking tax questions. They didn't know enough that 1) DIYer's are not wanted here; 2) you don't hijack one of Tom's threads 3) even if they were allowed here on TA there is a proper procedure for posting your profile and THEN asking a question. |

This thread will be diluted if this is not done. Pure and simple. If you like good quality advice, do not complain about the requirement to post profiles. Or, wait until the threads get so watered down, you will not enjoy this public forum for what it is meant to be, quality advice shared amongst tax professionals. I and others who like to know who you are are not the police. To say that is so negative. This forum is important. There are other sandboxes. |

What plumber and what money? Am I really going to receive some money? |

John, Tom is just pulling your leg. Those are examples of things told that shouldn't always be believed:
The check is in the mail. I'm from the government and I'm here to help. I'll gladly pay you Tuesday for a hamburger today.

Kevin - yes....I was reading it when I answered the phone and just about choked. Guess we DO know the same jokes.
[edit/great, now my post doesn't make sense.] |

Okay, guys and gals, you need to remember that some things NEVER go away. |

Yep, that's the same joke I know, too. I first heard it from a college roommate's father more than 25 years ago. Of course, he was a middle school principal so he probably heard it from one of his students. |
