No, this is not the American Taliban (yet).
This is the Muslim Taliban**: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/37615068/ns/world_news-south_and_central_asia
.**I wonder if there was a extremist religious judge or religious court involved in this decision to murder this boy? Or some kind of fundamentalism going on? According to the American Dominionists I was talking about this morning, they want to run our courts in this country. |
12 June 2010 | |
American drones have killed any number of children in Pakistan. Not intentionally, of course. We call them "collateral damage." But they are just as dead as this poor little boy. |
12 June 2010 | |
I was just giving an example of what happens when you replace secular justice with "religious justice". They burned a lot of innocent "heretics" and "witches" at the stake in Europe because of "religious justice", until our ancestors finally got smart and fought to separate church from state.
It can happen again. Here. A lot of blood was spilled to get Church and State separated, and we should keep it that way. P.S. By American Taliban, I didn't mean Muslims (they have their own Taliban), I meant these extremist "Dominionist" so-called Christians. |
12 June 2010 | |
Crow, you have a lot of faith in "secular justice." Secularist such as Mao and old Joe would put the religious extremist to shame for how much more efficient they were in routing out the religious. Power corrupts whether it was welded by secularist or the religious or the liberal or the conservatives. The genius of our ancestor was the separation of power: the church and state: legislature, executive and courts; federal versus state; Senate versus house, etc. |

American Taliban takes action in response to negative posts on TaxAlmanac: Fla. Teacher fired for "fornification".
http://today.msnbc.msn.com/id/37683770/ns/today-today_people/?GT1=43001
But notice, if they catch a big church minister "fornicating" THEN you hear: don't judge, God says don't judge, shhhh keep this quiet don't talk about it, his sins are forgiven, we'll handle this inside the church... and other such nausea. In no time, the "minister" is back as a forgiven "sinner", giving his "testimony", selling books and making more money than he did before. By the way, I understand Minister Ted Haggard (former President of the National Association of Evangelicals and Patron of Male Prostitutes) is back in the saddle. He's founded a new church "for sinners" (I thought they were all sinners) I think those are his words. Do a search and you can watch his recent press conference. Here's the Faux News story on it: |
14 June 2010 | |
I'm having a difficult enough time progressing from bifurcation to trifurcation (every man's fantasy, I hear). How on earth could I ever get to fournication? |
14 June 2010 | |
I think I am beginning to understand this "freedom party" a little better now. THEY are free to do whatever they want (and lie about it), but not the rest of us.
Snowbird, I agree that it's power that corrupts, and that's all the more reason we need to keep church and state absolutely separate. As far as Joe Stalin and Moa, yes, they were securlarists, but their crime has to fall squarely on them. They can't say "God made me do it, it's God's fault". Nevertheless, you make an excellent point. But, we don't have much in the way of a Joe and a Moa around in America today, but we sure do have a lot of this Christian extremist thinking going on. I hope it turns out to be a flash in the pan. |
15 June 2010 | |
Crow - "we don't have much in the way of a Joe and a Moa around in America today, but we sure do have a lot of this Christian extremist thinking going on." Why do you think the only loons on are the right? Maybe because that's all you read and hear about when you get your news only from MSNBC and the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. There are loons on the left, it is just not PC for the main stream media to report on them. Some are involved in the Arizona high school field trip. High school teachers in LA supporting La Raza, a revolutionary group calling for Mexican revolt inside the United States. Teachers Take Kids on a Protest Trip to Arizona Revolution ... sounds a lot like Mao and Joe to me. |
15 June 2010 | |
Give me a break, you been smoking too much Faux News. lol. I am sure there are hundreds of LA teachers supporting a Mexican "revolt" inside the United States, and they are well on the way to a full scale revolt. There's going to be a lot of rich Elephants who don't get their 5'o clock martini if the illegal Mexican goes on strike. A lot of rich Jack Asses will be whining about it too.
I remember Lou Dobbs suggesting (I think) that La Raza was a revolutionary group. I don't know if they are or not, I'll have to check that out. Oh, these awful dangerous Mexicans that the rich have doing their yard work and their handy work around the house, and mowing their lawn, and taking care of their babies. I've noticed a lot of the middle class keeping them busy with yard work, and building projects. I don't think there's a Washington politician of either party that doesn't have some foreign labor working for them, even though they're a little more careful these days in checking their papers ("just make it look good, I can always claim I made a mistake"). lol. If that's Joe and Mao, then the rich man is coming out pretty good, since he can afford to buy a ton of this cheap labor (and then turn to his neighbor and complain about those awful Mexicans). There is NO WAY corporate America will give up cheap labor, nor will the construction industry give up this labor, nor will the rich fellow give it up. As I've said before, it's not the illegal immigration that's killing this country, it's some of the LEGAL immigration that's killing us. |
15 June 2010 | |
Crow, you got to get your head out of MSNBC and Huffington Post and look around a little more. Who runs the drugs into the US? It is not that great of a leap from drug money to revolution. Look at Columbia and Afghanistan. Actually though, I am more concerned about your attitude and the attitudes I hear on Fox commentary and MSNBC / Huff than the crazies in Calif. The intolerance and vilification of different views may well split this country. When I was in Russia about 6 years ago, the opinion of several Russians, who were actually very knowledgeable about the US, was that the US would split. I just read an article about Belgium, one of the most civilized countries I have been in, is moving towards a split. Belgian election win for party that wants to split nation
What is also interesting is some of the European commentary about the situation in Belgium. As the Belgian elections prove, language can be a divisive issue But, too PC incorrect to discuss in the country. I can see maybe 3 or 4 countries formed from the US. Country 1 , a figure 7 that consists of the major northern cities starting with Chicago, Detroit, Cleveland, Phillie and then the East Coast down to Washington. Country 2, the SE, heathland and SW. Country 3, West Coast. Maybe a fourth would be southern California, southern AZ and NM and southwestern part of Texas which would be Spanish speaking. Crow, where do you want to live? |
15 June 2010 | |
Crow... I think it's safe to say that neither one of us will be attending any of Westboro Baptist Church's prayer meetings anytime soon!
Send them to the island too! I will let the Patriot Guard throw the going away party! |
15 June 2010 | |
There is a huge difference between accidentally killing children and intentionally hanging a child as a "spy." There is no moral justification for either, however. But I must say, the Taliban have no regard for life at all. Like Crow's example, they live by a stringent set of rules. Once, they simply executed woman without trial for adultery. She got a bullet to the back of the head, the man got nothing.
I am not saying war is good, but George S. Patton was not afraid to speak the truth about war. It was simply an ugly business. He was quoted as saying, "May God have mercy upon my enemies, because I won't." As for the example cited, I am not familiar with this, but MSNBC is then left-wing as Fox News is allegedly right-wing if we are going to call it "Faux News." Chris Matthews recently blamed Cheney for the Gulf oil spill. Keith Olbermann should go back to reporting sports because he cannot get his facts right about much after watching some of his shows. Same with Maddow. She is worse. After watching one of her shows, I nearly doubled over in laughter at her and her staff's lack of knowledge. That's why I barely watch these shows anymore. Thank goodness the World Cup is on for the next month. Tom |

Snowbird, unfortunately for your 'Country 2', the other two 'contries' are the ones that overcontribute to the federal budget, while your lovely 'heartland' sucks the coasts, Illinois & New England dry. I'm for it too; I get to keep more of my money, and don't have to deal with you repugs trying to overregulate my private (ie. sex) life. |
16 June 2010 | |
Uh, Joan, this issue is not that us repugs really give a flying fart (for lack of better terminlogy) about your sex life. For all I care you can get your jollies off a rhinocerous...I just don't want you telling me that you are not only doing it, but that i have to approve of you doing it.
Oh, and Country 2 will probably get all the workers out of the other two countries and the need for the assistance will dwindle because the bloodsuckers in country 2 will either have to become producers or move to country 1 or 3. I know that if where I live happens to go with country 2...I'm outta there and moving before country 1 tells me that I am not allowed to. Believe me if the bloodsucker realize that their checks won't be coming anymore...they will be moving to where you are or getting jobs so taht they can earn their checks. |
16 June 2010 | |
Oh, and I have compassion. I just beleive in the separation of church and state...like Crow...however I believe that the Church not the state is responsible for helping those in need. Not uncle Sam...Because private charities and churches are much better equipped to help those in need than the government is...because in private charities and churches the people in need are people not votes... |
17 June 2010 | |
Today was not a complete loss .... thanks to Joan, I learned a new word ...repug! I am one!
I actually don't think the country is likely to divide. We in the heartland may think that Maureen Dowd, Frank Rich, Chris Matthew, Lawrence O'Donnell and the other media elites are representative of the East, but they are not. The first responders who rushed into the World Trade Towers are truly representative of the East. The same goes for the West. San Fran and LA media, Hollywood Celebrities and politicians are not the West. It is the career military men and women around San Diego and Camp Pent and the Border Petrol (who have mostly Latino names) that put their lives on the line that are the real West. Unfortunately, we have let minorities in each area define us. |

Ah, well, my husband and I happen to have Hispanic last names and we are both American CITIZENS. So are my kids, born and raised. Nobody in my family is illegal. NOBODY. Sorry if that pisses you off, but I'm not changing my name to "fit in" better with what you think is a "good American." By the way, my husband was stopped in Arizona and questioned while we were walking through the airport. The border patrol agent asked to see "our papers." This was last year-- before the new law even came into affect. We were dressed nice and had our kids with us. It was humiliating. Since we are citizens, we don't carry our passports on us everywhere we go, just our driver's licenses. I noticed that nobody with blonde hair and blue eyes was getting asked, but I'm sure there are at least a few million Russian, Eastern European, and even Asian illegals in the United States, as well. I wonder why they stopped us?... Hmmm... maybe someone here can give me an idea, because I sure don't know why. I hope snowbird never gets a dark tan and goes to Arizona. |
17 June 2010 | |
Gee, Tax Writer, you don't look like and I don't recall seeing a blonde hair, blue eyed Asian. Well, maybe once in a certain type of movie while I was in college.![]() Tom |
17 June 2010 | |
Then maybe you should inform your "illegal" cousins to get outta the state. Sorry, but when most illegals are in the coutry are of hispanic origin...everyone of Hispanic origin is going to get it. Period the end...Maybe you should inform your friends that are here illegally to get their butts back to their country of origin and come here legally. Maybe you should be grateful that the border control was doing their job to make sure that you and your husband who are here legally would not have additional compitition of those who are not here legally. I am a woman and have to prove myself in different ways than a man does, but I don't whine about it...I realize that that's the way the world is and I work with it to my advantage. Stop whining about being asked a few questions. Be happy that you were askeed questions and not treated like the Japanese were treated during WWII what's a few questions compared to being sent to internnment camps during that time period? |

Back in the 17th Century, I believe the first settlers in Virginia and Massachusetts were illegal immigrants too. |

I'm of Italian descent (with a non Italian, Americanized 'off the boat' maiden last name given to my grandfather by someone at Ellis Island) and I get mixed up for everything (including Indian, Arab, etc), Latino, Hispanic, Greek, Spanish besides getting mixed up with wiseguys. It's frustrating to be a 'victim' of stereotyping, but when a large number of individuals with similar physical features break the law, the innocents will pay.
I'm sure anyone of Asian descent got it really bad starting with Pearl Harbor. |
17 June 2010 | |
Not sure if Snowbird's post is being interpreted correctly. I don't read anything in it against American's of Hispanic descent . I think what is trying to be said is that the not everyone on the West Coast shares the same political beliefs as the Hollywood stars, and not everyone on the East Coast shares the same political beliefs as some of the prominent liberal leaning newsfolks. We should be careful to generalize.
In my opinion, let's let anyone into this country who is willing to work, abide by the law and pay taxes, while we work to exterminate (not literally) the leeches (they come in all colors, shapes, and sizes) who are only here for the free money. |
Tax Writer (talk|edits) said: | 17 June 2010 |
Then maybe you should inform your "illegal" cousins to get outta the state.
I already stated that all my family is American-born. I don't really understand this statement. By the way, my family is all Catholic, we own guns, and we all vote. I think that it's political suicide for the Conservatives to attack Hispanics, who tend to be conservative themselves. But that's just my opinion-- I felt like it cost them the election during the last cycle and it may cost the next one. I've voted for Democrats and Republicans over the years, ( I even voted for Nader one year) but I won't vote for anyone who thinks that they can trample on my Constitutional rights because I happen to have a name that's not Jones or Smith. If they are going to check me, then they should check everyone. The law should be equal. I would be okay with that. And yes, I think the Japanese Internment camps were wrong. One of my best friends in college was born in one, and I think it was a regrettable period in our nation's history. |
17 June 2010 | |
When we can no longer afford something it becomes a financial burden. Some burdens we carry willingly (our kids for example) others we do not. In people's personal lives with the current economy, people have scrimped and sacrificed and tried to rid themselves of unnecessary burdensome expenses. For our country the financial drain comes from our programs. Our laws and programs are in place to support the less fortunate citizens in an attempt for them to maintain a minimum standard of life and lifestyle - food, clothing, shelter, health care needs and an ability to better themselves so that they no longer use these services. When we have illegal immigrants who have "rights" who use, abuse and drain our services for the legal citizens it becomes a burden that as a society we cannot afford. We can barely afford, if it can be said that we can afford it at all, those services for our citizens.
I also feel that having illegal aliens and undocumented visitors is an embarrassment to national security. How can a country protect its citizens if it cannot monitor those entering or exiting the country? The border with Mexico is clearly a problem. What is also a problem is that Mexico and Mexicans resists our efforts to monitor and secure our borders. They have no rights in this regard. Our law that if you are born here, you are a citizen has encouraged this behavior. We won't separate families so we allow illegal to stay and have granted amnesty. If those children of illegals weren't citizens at birth, then it would discourage this behavior. I have no sympathy for someone who illegally entered the country, had children, got caught and then deported having to choose whether to leave the kids behind or to take them with them. The parents created the situation. Just like if they broke the law and went to jail. How the awful and criminal acts of the Taliban morphed into a discussion of illegal immigration, I don't know. |
17 June 2010 | |
Then what I am trying to say is that maybe you should understand that it is mostly people of Hispanic origin that are trying to come here illegally. I read that part, but I didn't know if you didn't have some cousins who had cousins...etc. And you don't know for sure if you have friends or not who are here illegally. Point blank, I am sorry if you feel attacked right now because of your ethnicity. But the facts are right now because of Geographical issues, there are not any blue eyed, blonde haired, scandinavians trying to cross the border from Mexico to Texas, Arizon, New Mexico, or California. So until you legal Hispanics stop supporting the illegal Hispanics, this is going to happen. I also believe in stopping every Arabic person or someone from an Muslim country, because it has been the Arabs, and the Muslims who have tried to blow up planes on the U.S. soil. Is that Profiling? Yes, but it's also common sense...you can't get rid of common sense just because it hurts your feelings. |
17 June 2010 | |
Oh and I don't agree with the Japanese internment camps, but you are upset about your husband having to show his papers, when people who even looked remotly asian had everything taken away from them and they were shipped off. Sorry, nothing in the constitution says that you can not be questioned about your citizenship. It just guarentees you the rights if you are a citizen...and it's up to you to provide that information. Why are you upset about having to show a license...shoot, I think that I should have to show ID at the voting booth because of voter fraud....so if I am willing to do that to prove that I am eligable to vote...what's your issue with showing your id to an officer if you are legal? It's about protecting your rights, not about having your rights violated. Because they are your rights, not the rights of the person sneaking over the Rio Grande at night. |
Tax Writer (talk|edits) said: | 17 June 2010 |
Why are you upset about having to show a license..
I'm not upset about having to show my license. I'm upset that my family was the only one being asked. I believe in the Bill of Rights. That's why we have laws-- to protect the rights of individual citizens. Your "common sence" argument is similar to the one that's used by despotic governments. By the way, I'm waiting for Godwin's law to kick in on this one.... Crow... I promised myself I wouldn't get sucked into a political argument--- how did this happen? ARRRG! |
17 June 2010 | |
But there are a lot of blonde-haired, blue eyed people overstaying tourist and/or student visas, smuggled in on ships, etc. Of course, scandinavians have it pretty darn good where they are, so why would they want to come here?. Russians & people from former russian satelite countries are a different case.
And as far as the blood sucking 'Country 2' people from the heartlant.....welfare doesn't just go to the unemployed. A lot of the 'welfare' I am talking about has to do with farm subsidies...subsidies to grow stuff we grow too much of anyways, like corn, subsidies not to grow stuff, etc. Most of the stuff we grow out here on the left coast, we do without subsidies, like tomatoes & strawberries, etc. The stuff we shouldn't be growing does get water subsidies (another story I can rant to no end over) but most are from the STATE water project, not the Beaureau of Reclaimation. IMHO, welfare is welfare, regardless of whether it is open, such as making sure our seniors don't live in poverty, or disguised as business tax breaks and subsidies. And at least when it is out in the open, transparency is possible. the hidden welfare, such as the welfare that keeps oil cheap, or encourages the purchase of gas guzzlers, are a bigger problem that poor people getting food stamps. |
17 June 2010 | |
I don't care what national origin illegals are from. Illegals are illegal. Period. I strongly suspect that, if we had a border with another country, say Pakistan, or Russia or any Scandinavian country, we would be talking about those groups as illegal and needing to protect our borders from their illegal entry. Provided of course they were illegally entering the country. The issue isn't Mexicans/Hispanics its our fluid border and their belief that they can get lost in this country and suffer no consequences. Mexico would never tolerate illegal entry into their country. If you did so you would end up in jail. How any official from Mexico or anywhere else can critique our laws so openly when theirs are more stringent I cannot understand and we cannot tolerate. It shows disrespect and contempt for a neighbor whose citizens have benefited from us. |
17 June 2010 | |
We suck everyone into political discussions whether you want to or not. That's what usually happens when Crow posts something.

I wonder who would pick our crops in the Garden State? Volunteers? |
17 June 2010 | |
When I was in college, lots of locals picked crops. It was the 80's in PA & there were a lot of unemployed. Including me. BTW,one of my friends talked to the migrants & found they were paid more per bucket than us po' locals were. Illegals can be exploited only because there are a lot of citizens that believe certain kinds of work are 'beneath' them. Whereas immigrants (illegal or not) often just want work.
I think everyone should spend a summer picking fruit or vegetables. It gives you a sense of perspective, not to mention a respect for hard work and education. |
CathysTaxes (talk|edits) said: | 17 June 2010 |
I know a large group of individuals who would work some of those menial jobs, like picking crops. There are many developmentally delayed individuals (my daughter has autism and participates in a privately run work program at a green house) who would jump at these jobs or washing dishes in a restaurant if someone would give them a chance. It beats having them sit around all day in some day program (that is if their families are fortunate enough to receive funding to pay for it so they could go to work).
The illegals who are doing the menial jobs, should they be granted amnesty, we would find literally millions of people now receiving EIC and Medicaid. |
17 June 2010 | |
Sxptax -- you said it much more elloquently than me...my ADHD is catching up to me:) Joan, you are right about what you are saying about migrant workers. Howeer, did you know that those illegals were paid more because it was "under the table" so the employer didn't pay things like SS OR Medicare taxes, unemployment taxes, or workers comp insurance on those employees. So he could afford to be "generous" and pay them a little more as a thank you for not requiring him to take his time to fill out all the paper work and pay more out of pocket to boot.
Cathys taxes -- you have a major point there. The problem is that the government throws a fit and says that we are exploiting the developmenetally delayed individuals instead of helping them. The last time I saw a developmentally challenged person work, the state required that a social worker go to work with them and oversee what they were doing. If there was a problem with the person's work, the employer could not talk to the employee -- they had to talk to the social worker. The state was saying that the employer could not possibly understand the limitations of the person and work with that, but that the social worker could. By doing that it just caused a lot of confusion and set the individual up to be fired. Mainly because the social worker was trying to keep the person from doing their job... |
17 June 2010 | |
Laticiaw, I don't know if the people were illegal or not, they were Jamaicans in that neck of the woods, not Mexican. So I guess they swam ashore? All the way to PA? They were paid $1 a bucket for cherries, while we were paid 90 cents.
When I worked for the CA Franchise Tax Board for a short stint as a student intern, the early returns coming in were, for the most part, illegals. How do I know? Because I was doing social security mismatches. They were getting W-2s, paying payroll, etc. Earned income credit was not a big thing then...you didn't get a big welfare payment for filing with a lot of kids. Why did these people file? Someone told me it was because they thought they had a better chance for citizenship if they filed their taxes. |
18 June 2010 | |
I probably should feel insulted, but I don't. I vacillated from thinking that we will be lucky if the country holds together for another generation (after listening to the media and politicians) to being optimistic that we are much more like than often portrayed based on personal travels and observations. I probably should pull a Crow and go back and edit my post :) "minorities" was a poor word choice when I did not mean a group defined by race or ethnicity, but rather by extreme opinions.
When Tax Writer wrote "By the way, my family is all Catholic, we own guns, and we all vote", I had to go check her profile, I thought she was from the western Pa, NY or Midwest, Plains or Mountain states. Now Calif own guns and are religious... didn't think that was possible:) |

Well, to be honest, it's my husband that owns all the guns. Technically, California is a community property state so I own them, too.. but we're just splitting hairs. Our gun safe is taller than me! The hubby and I had a little "come to Jesus" meeting after he crashed a motorcycle and injured himself pretty bad. No more motorcycles after that... but the guns are okay. I can't take it all away from him...Men must have their toys. Tax Writer |

oh, you do get to split everything in California, including hairs, according to the community property rules, Christy |

It's the hypocricy of it once again. It's ridiculous to complain about the illegal Mexican when so many of us take advantage of the cheap labor.
I was talking to an illegal Mexican recently and here's how it went: Me: Jose, who is your favorite American? Jose: El Presidente Reagan. He make America just like Mexico. Me: You mean a little of that el trickle down stuff? Jose: Si. El trickle. But it never trickle. Me: A few rich padrons at the top, and a lot of cheap labor below, is that it? No middle class? Jose: Si Senor. "Reaganomico". I never get homesick in America no more. You Americans made America into Mexico for me. Me: You can thank the Elephant party for that Jose. The did make America into Mexico. Jose: One day we laugh at you Gringos when you try to get work in China, no? Me: I comprehend it only too well Jose. Saint Reagan, the patron saint of the American banana republic. Well, as far as I'm concern Jose, you're welcome here. We did it to ourselves. Enjoy the bananas. Jose: You want me to give you your Nahautl lesson now, Senor Crow? Me: That's ok, I already speak a fair Nahautl, especially after I partake of a little of that fermented agave juice. Jose: Adios for now, see you in Peking one day Senor Crow! Me: Thank you Jose, I feel like a Peking duck right now, a cooked one. |

they now have turkeys in China, so you are not limited to Peking Duck any more. You can now have Peking Turkey, or as I like to call it, Peking Tom. |

@joanmcq, You beat me to it. Many of my friends did that as a summer job as well. |
18 June 2010 | |
When the great illegal immigrant and explorer Cortes got to Mexico (Aztec) he was served turkey and fruit by Motecuhzoma (Montezuma). Montezuma said in greeting: "Toteukyeo, otikmihiyowiltih otikmoziyawiltih"
"Our Lord (to Corez), how you must have suffered (during your illegal immigration), how fatigued you must be." I guess the Chinese will be saying the same thing to us after we swim over there looking for a job one day. Americans will learn what this "free market", "welfare for the rich" and lowest common denominator thinking really is. What we need is an international minimum wage, so that labors' lack of short-term mobility can't be taken advantage of in an artificial way by greedy, lazy hyper-capitalists. |
18 June 2010 | |
Oh, and I have compassion. I just beleive in the separation of church and state...like Crow...however I believe that the Church not the state is responsible for helping those in need. Not uncle Sam...
I don't know about this. With all due respect, this is the help I've seen from these super Christians....Not much. How many times have I seen new carpet for the church, and a new organ, and a pay raise for some lazy preacher who can't even preach to begin with, and the POOR schlepping along in the shadows outside of these churches? I've had to walk over poor people at the door of a church to hurl tomatoes at a fat Baptist minister ("fat" covers about every one of them). Those Southern Baptists don't miss a meal brother, let me tell you. If they could eat their way to heaven, they'd already be there. I had a friend from Bangladesh who fainted when he saw how a Southern Baptist cleaned up a plate of fried chicken and biscuits (and left no tip for the waitness who works her legs off). Once I found a dead man at the door of an inner-city fundamentalist church (I am not kidding). I asked one lamb who went to the church why they didn't help him, and she said he hadn't been dunked, but only sprinkled, and "he weren't good enough to feed and save". Her words. Lo! 50 cent in the Salvation Army bucket ain't going to cut it in helping the poor. Nor is a few free canned goods during Christmas, and a bunch of old clothes you throw out. Hark! The Lord said give to it hurts. The widder gave her last two mites! First thing is to cut out all this "missionary" activity, which is just an excuse for these church people to go on an expense paid tour, and amounts to a boondoggle. Bunch of silly Americans running around foreign countries in ridiculous clothes preaching the "Gospel", and a simpleton's Gospel at that. All so-called "missonary work" should be taxed, and missionaries put in kindergarten until they repent of foreign vacations. Remember that so-called Christian lady who tried to steal those babies in Haiti? She needs to go home and get the real missionary going, and have her own kids. Then she can preach a simpleton's version of the Gospel to them, and confuse them to no end when they see mama say one thing and do another. P.S. We also need to get rid of this silly cartoon-"Christianity" on cable TV, and I've already wrote my county commissioner and threatened to sue him over it. However, I'm afraid if I get one devil gone, seven more will come in worse than the one that left. Like Jesus said. These people on these Cartoon Christian Networks are all trying to trick poor people into giving money so they'll be rich one day. It's the crooked ministers that end up rich. |

Crow...you've been going to the wrong churches then. Things are tough for me financially right now, and my church has helped to keep the lights on literally, which has allowed us to pay rent. It has also provided food for us when we needed it. I have not had to go to the government for anything other than my husband's unemployment checks. And we avoided those like the plague until we had no choice. What the government does is make us dependent so that we don't want to do better. The church helps us until we can do better. You are looking at nationally televised churches and bashing them. You are not looking at the local churches and what they are doing going about their day and doing. They are doing their work quietly and helping those that need the help. Again, we are going to have to agree to disagree on this issue. The government discriminates as well, they discriminate based on the income...but they don't ask any further questions. The church does look at the income, but they also look and ask questions about why the people are in their situation. The church has to manage it's money wisely. BTW my church just released two pastors because it was either them or the benevolence fund which would take a hit. They chose the pastors...who were both able to find jobs in other areas of the country in our denomination. My church isn't perfect, but I would much rather ask the pastor's in my church for help financially than ask a stranger. |

BTW...anyone hear of any sales positions in the Maryland area that would be willing to over look credit issues because of a previous marraig...pm me...we are desparate. |

It's good to hear that some churches are really helping people, and I am glad you found a church with the right priorities.
It's the policies of people like Saint Ronald Reagan that has put so many people out of work to begin with. When Americans get a job today, it's part-time and you can barely survive on it. That's the new America, a bunch of part-time jobs. The dream come true of St. Ronald and Queen Nancy. Let the poor help the rich get richer (and richer). So if the government is helping people today, it SHOULD be helping them, and the Elephants should be taxed double for what they've done to our country. As far as welfare. Let's go back to the tax cut for the rich in 2001 (approved by that idiot Alan Greenspan), passed under George II. The tax cut was NOT paid for, it got added to the deficit. It was a handout to rich people who did not need a handout. It was welfare pure and simple. Just like the welfare for Wall Street. This is what the Elephants do over and over again. Hand money to rich people. The false theory (or LIE) is that it will "trickle down" to you. These nice rich people will throw something your way, is the story they tell. Well, the old saying is if you are going to tell a lie, tell a big one, and the chief Elephants certainly know how to trick the junior Elephants and lie to them. The Jack Ass Party is only a little better nowdays, but they are better. Good luck. You can't change these junior elephants until they find their own self out of a job. And if the Elephant says it's not the governments money to begin with, you remind the Elephant how many government services he takes for granted, including the Department of War (aka Department of Defense). These Chief Elephants are tearing the country down with their corporate welfare and welfare for the rich. P.S. I want to remind everyone that we have had this Reaganomic thinking since 1980, and look what has happened to our middle class during this time. Finally, the pastors in most churches in America today are so dumb that they don't realize when Jesus was talking about helping the poor, he meant it. A lot of these pastors today need to get their noses out of the r*ctums of the rich so they can see to help the poor. |

Ok, I live in CA and have much more in common with Crow politics than any other (and I am either quite libertarian or extreme left when it comes to stuff like legalizing pot or who can marry-isn't it wierd how those two sides go so far to each side, they end up with the same result?) but my boyfriend left his guns at my house, so does that mean I have guns too? He's gonna teach me to shoot them too. |
18 June 2010 | |
You have them, but you don't own them.
You own the house. What this boils down to is that if the police show up without a warrant, you can let them in and they can find the guns even though your boyfried might object. lol. As far as shooting those guns, he's never going to give you the good gun. Watch him, he might try to fiddle with your sight, or put butter or gun oil on your trigger. A lot of women shoot more accurate than men do, and it's a good thing to remind him of that. Just take you some whiteout and put on your sight and you'll be ok because you'll be able to see it, and you'll outshoot him. |

I think we all forget that illegal immigration has been a problem from various regions and various points of time in recent history. An influx of Mexican or South American countries is just the latest. What about Cubans who would float across the Ocean to Florida? Or the Vietnamese who also ventured in the the sea in search of friendlier shores? |

I am back from a couple of days off-line and catching up on the thread. We have a poster still stuck in the 19th century with David Ricardo and Marx ... that the only value added to a product is labor. All profit is the a result of the exploitation of labor ... need "an international minimum wage." No multiplier effect of capital just "greedy, lazy hyper-capitalists." I have not read such stuff since my "History of Economic Thought" course way back in the 60's. I keep wondering what our poster prefers, the post war Labour government of Great Britain that just about took them back to a 3rd world country, the Socialist government of France where our current unemployment level was the normal,or maybe modern Venezuela. There is a quote from a Churchill speech: "No one pretends that democracy is perfect or all-wise. Indeed, it has been said that democracy is the worst form of government except all those other forms that have been tried from time to time." The same can be said about our form of Capitalism ... it's far from perfect, but sure beats anything else that has been tried.
And then we have a left coaster that makes me think I am back in the 60's. Marijuana, LSD, Free Love and anything goes. No need for societal norms ... crack babies, single moms, kids who don't know their fathers, STD epidemic in teens ... all no problem. It's all enough to depress me, if I wasn't going fishing again. |
