But have the banner ads encroached on more of the page and have they been relocated to a more prominent spot?

in the discussion Discussion:"Free" Days over now? instructions were given as to how to eliminate these from coming up, but I have been reluctant to add anything to my computer during tax season, because it seems that every time I add one program, another one stops working, and I don't have time to pull any more hair out for two more weeks.

It is very annoying.

Have they ever even commented on why they are showing cheap-ass banners on an professional board?? Find an old classmate, get a free laptop, strobe flashes and shaky images, classy.

someone's got to pay for the site cost, nothing is free

yeah well, would love to know how much the bowflex ad is contributing to keeping intuits boat afloat. I just might have clicked on it if they were showing a little less hairless hunk and a little more, well...

Just be glad they don't have pop up ads for Viagra

HAHA. Will, somewhere there is a land of lost socks, pens, and Bowflex machines. It's a mile down the road from the pet rocks, and Chia pets.

But I swear they are more obnoxious this week...being placed between the discussion title and the dialogue so that your eye has to hit them.

I think Tim moved them.

Oh, and see you in a few hours. I've had it for the day. My eyes are bloodshot.

Are there any ads for eyedrops?

Tom, see Zonker's post in the above mentioned thread.

This is the busiest time of the year. Maybe they are charging extra for the prime space knowing that we will see it.

I really thought my eyes were going just now. I saw that the date is April 4th and I could not believe it! I thought I just lost a whole day. I think the website it on EST.

Mine are blocked. I so lucky!

It's really worth the effort to get an ad blocker. I haven't seen an internet ad in years.

Kevin,

I installed the ad blocker a bunch of weeks back not because of this but because of a major local newspaper (The Washington Post) and it works like a charm. That's why I needed to know about an ad for eyedrops.

The server is on UTC which is "Coordinated Universal Time" or "International Atomic Time." To set it to your time zone, go to preferences, click on "Time Zone" and "fill in from browser." UTC is GMT (Greenwich Mean Time). On the east coast we are -4 hours from UTC. Atomic clocks are set to UTC and many computers utilize the atomic clocks out of (I believe) Fort Collins, CO or the Master Clock at the US Naval Observatory in Washington, DC. It's easier to use UTC these days on computer servers.

Go here to learn a little more and to find out what time it really is:

http://physics.nist.gov/GenInt/Time/boulder.html

I've seen the master clock at the USNO. It's just a room with a bunch of computers in it and it was a bit of a mess. The telescopes are neater to look at.

That posted as 21:20 p.m. April 8 according to the history page. As you can see from the discussion page, however, it is already April 9. It has a split personality.
