The instructions say to put the brackets around the "Page Name." Where does one find the "Page Name." Thanks.

The Page Name is the text in big bold letters at the top of each page - below the tabs and above the horizontal line. The title / page name for this page is Discussion:Internal Links - Another Discussion.

Let me know if this is still confusing.

Thanks - so you bracket all bold words - not just some of them. Thanks.

Acutally I think I partially understand. From this post I am doing right now, how would I access, say for example, another post in the feedback section without losing what I am doing right now?

Actually, that's a very good question. The way that I personally do it is to press Ctrl-T to open a new tab in my browser, go to TaxAlmanac and find the page I want to reference, copy the pagename, click the first tab, and paste it in in between the square brackets. I use the Firefox browser which allows multiple tabs and the Ctrl-T key as a shortcut. I think most people are using Microsoft Explorer to browse the web, and IE only added tabbed browsing in version 7. If you don't have a browser that supports tabbed browsing, you can always start the browser a second time.

Now that's what works now, but I agree, you have to know a little about what you are doing to make it work. The next question is how would you want it to work? There are probably ways in whcih we could make this much easier to use.

Looks like I did something wrong as I got a red link.

[Would you Recommend TaxAlmanac?]

Some pages have a namespace added to the front of the pagename, and you need to include that as well.

What I am doing is high lighting the bold words, doing a copy, and then go back to my post and do a paste.

Ah... this might be confusing as well....

If you are linking to a page on TaxAlmanac, put the full pagename between two sets of square brackets - like this: [[Discussion:Would you Recommend TaxAlmanac?]]

If you are linking to a page on another website, put the URL between one set of square brackets - like this: [http://www.google.com]

You said What I am doing is high lighting the bold words, doing a copy, and then go back to my post and do a paste.

That is correct. Just make sure you get the FULL pagename (including "Discussion:") and put all of that between "[[" and "]]".

Solomon:

Are you looking at the index of discussions? Is that where you're pulling the pagename from? Click into the actual discussion and you'll see that all of the discussions pages really start with "DISCUSSION:". That must be there or the link won't work.

Look at the Roth IRA topic. All I see is ROTH IRA - don't see the word discussion. I see Discussion Index - Tax Questions ROTH IRA'

ok, I understand now. All of the discussions have a prefix of "Discussion:" so they don't interfere with summary articles which may or may not currently exist. We don't display that on the index page - just to keep it a little cleaner. If you grab the title of a discussion and want to make a link, you'll need to manually add "Discussion:" to the front of it, or drill down into the actual discussion and copy from there (the Discussion should display there).

Sorry for the confusion, but glad we got this sorted out.
