Client has residential rental property and had to cut down a tree, is that a maintenance expense or a capitla item. The cost to get rid of the tree was $1900? Thanks in advance for your help.

depends on if he kept a log (I couldn't resist).

Kevinh5, he kept the log for a while, but decided to go ahead and burn the log because it has been so cold here!

Did you reduce the $1,900 repair expense by the FMV of the log (as a personal withdrawal)?

Thank you for pointing out that fact. I am trying to find out the type of tree and diameter so I can properly value the log and reduce the expense.

And people think tax preparers, accountants and CPAs have no sense of humor, go figure!

This sounds like an audit - not tax preparation.
