Taxpayer obtained bachelor degree several years ago (before this credit was in existence). Taxpayer goes back to school to get a second bachelor degree. Based on number of hours, taxpayer would be a senior. Will taxpayer qualify for Hope Credit or must he/she utilize the Lifetime Learning Credit?

EckertCPA: As you indicated client is going for 2nd bachelor degree, HOPE is not available. You must use Lifetime learning credit.

Hope is for first two years of post-secondary education. Since they already have one Bachelors (assume four years to get it), they already have four years of post-secondary education. No Hope only Lifetime

First two years of Post-Secondary education does not translate into Post-Secondary-Post-Credit education. No Hope credit.
