Does anyone know if the W-2, box 12, Coded Q for combat pay is included in Box 1 wages?

Military Onesource was kind enough to answer my question. (They prepare military personnel tax rtns for free). Block 1 does not include any combat pay or the monthly salary while in a combat zone. Its possible some personnel were in a combat zone for the full calendar year and would show zero earned income for the EIC. Therefore, the combat pay in box 12 should be indicated to qualify them for the EIC.

You can acutally choose to use the combat pay or not when figuring the EIC, which ever is best.
