A news article about BVO flame retardant in some soft drinks. It will be taken out of Gatorade.

My 90 year old neighbor 2 doors down could have used some flame retardant in his system last night. He got up to get a drink, fell into his fireplace, while grasping for something to hold onto turned the switch on to his gas logs, and caught his hair on fire, all the while laying head first in the fireplace. His wife heard his screams, woke up, and turned the fire off. Luckily his clothes didn't catch on fire, or he may have burned the house down. Yes, a trip to the hospital and 2nd and 3rd degree burns all over his head. I fear he won't be around much longer, he keeps falling and hurting himself.

K5, that story seems right out of a TV sitcom. I do not know you personally, but from observing your TA posts, I'd say you are way too serious a person to have made it up, so I accept it as true and very sad. Wow!

When you say he got up to get a drink, do you mean a non-alcoholic drink? Of course, it might be Ensure he was drinking. It's terrible that it happened, and a pity that no one captured it on video. It would have been a hit on the nursing home circuit, and on TV. I think the man needs a real nurse at this point, and he needs to be encouraged to wear a football helmet and pads.

The old gentleman will have to be managed carefully over the next two months. This shock to his system could result in a compromised immune system and global deterioration. The family needs to speak to his internal medicine doctor about what they can do to boost his immune system.

It is true. Well, their recyling bin is always full of empty wine bottles, but I do believe that she drinks more than he does. I think he's on Ensure, like you suggested. They have the money for a nursing home, but choose not to put him in. Who wants to be in a nursing home when you have a nice home already?
