As everyone here probably knows, the Holy Spirit led me some years ago to watch all the TV preacher shows and report back to God. I can't tell you exactly what I say to God because it's covered by a "confidentiality agreement" like Newt Gingrich has with Freddie Mac.

For instance, I've been watching Rev. Ernest Angley since he had a 32 in. waist and he was so poor back then that he wore a scrap of shag carpet on his head instead of the high dollar toupee he wears today. Apparently, the Rev. Angley can cure everything but baldness.

Anyway, after my usual lunch yesterday of Ezekiel Bread(TM) and water, I settled down to watch The 700 Club.

Yesterday their Science Report was on the virtues of coconut oil. Some of you might know that Coconut oil is all the craze today. Even though it's very high in saturated fat, it supposedly has a very good effect on HDL cholesterol.

The 700 Club even had a scientist on from U. Maryland who appeared to agree that Coconut Oil is good for you. Mainstream science does not appear quite ready to give it's blessing, however.

I don't know if any of you saw this segment but Rev. Pat and his lady sidekick were actually putting gobs of Louana Coconut oil in their breakfast cereal.

So, before I reported back to God, I wanted to know if anyone here believes that coconut oil works and is it any good?

The best use of coconut oil is to weigh the coconuts down so that they fall on the heads of 700 Club leaders sunbathing in the tropics at the expense of contributions of the faithful in their snowbound homes in the midwest this winter.

I believe the 700 club will dispute this, much as the early Church disputed Newton's Law of Gravity, formed, as we all know, when an apple fell and hit his noggin. The irony of the similarities in modus operandi should not be lost on you, CrowJD. God works in mysterious ways.

I expected Bracket Creep or BobtheMob to give a ringing endorsement of coconut oil.....or any oil for that matter.

According to the 700 "Science News", the oil is not only excellent for the heart, it's also good for the brain. (See the article today about memory loss at 45). lol.

The idea is that even though coconut oil is high in saturated fat it's a special kind of saturated fat with amazing properties.

Louana Co. is now selling the oil at a much reduced rate. I don't know if you can buy Louana erl up North. In the past you could only find it in the health food section of the grocery with the usual....healthy...markup.

I have not made the plunge myself, just wondering if anyone else is trying it. After reading that book on the Texas oilmen I'm seeking my riches in oil now.

P.S. I don't know why these Christians are so worried about living a long life if they're all going to heaven anyway, but I'll take that up another day. I can't get up to the cash register in the grocery store for all the Christians buying health food and they buy out my Ezekiel(TM) bread before I can get my hands on it.

Yes I am a part-time preacher but please don't think that makes me a Christian (especially not one of these modern Christians.)

I've used coconut oil for many years. I also use hemp oil, pumpkin seed oil, flax and EFA oils - to name a few. If you are going to use oil, use the most nutritious.

Ukbones, with all that oil flowing through your veins you ought to be rich. One spark and you could go up in flames. What's your doctor say about it? Or you might be so healthy now you don't need one.

Signed: Medical basket case.

(I am going to keep an open mind about the coconut oil for sure. The show said don't buy any that is hydrogenated and I already knew that. I'll wait a little longer for further research.)

I've used 3-in-One Oil for years. The Tin Man told me about it.

Moderation CrowJD, always in moderation. Tablespoon here and there and in home made dressings.

The last time I was ill I was in the army and living on what I can only describe as dog food and sleeping rough.

By God is that how the British treat their troops? That's terrible.

You need to join my Southern Militia down here. We only fight if our nap is interrupted.

Don't worry, I'm the very model of moderation. I'm a Puritan at heart.

"...Louana Coconut oil... "

Cheap, but garbage - try Coconut Oil Supreme - tastes so good (all in the processing) I put a tablespoon on a slice of Ezekiel Cinnamon-Raisin Bread.

Thanks for the tip Solomon I'll look for it. I was surprised that my grocery had only the Louana Coconut in with the regular oils. The health food section of the same store seems to have more brands but they seem to give you such a small amount of product. I may have to visit a few stores.

I haven't found Supreme in stores - usually buy it here:

Coconut Oil Supreme

In fact, I should have a delivery tomorrow of 3 one pound bottles. Flat shipping charge, so not worth while to order one bottle - unless a larger container.

I find myself having to order more and more food products off the web that the stores won't carry. They seem to save their shelf space these days for the store brands. Thanks.

I used coconut oil on my hands a Burning Man and it worked pretty well. And smelled nice too!

Joan, I've wanted to get out to Burning Man for awhile.

Have you ever met Jeff McBride, the magician from Las vegas there?

How much water do you carry?

How far is it from Reno?

Ok. I have my first coconut recipe. I tested it out on some people hanging out on the corner in my neighborhood today and it was a hit:

Lunch-Lady Fortified Peanut Butter Sandwiches (From the School Lunch Lady Cookbook, USDA 1965)

1 cup smooth peanut butter

1/3 to 1/2 cup dry milk powder

2-3 TBSP melted crisco (or Coconut erl)

2-3 TBSP Honey (or light corn syrup).

In a bowl, dampen dry milk a bit with water, Stir in peanut butter and blend wit dampened milk powder. Add oil and honey and mix well. Use as a sandwich filling. **Optional: Add to the above 2 tsp Tang(TM) powder for an Orange Marmalade-PB flavor and this will add 100% of your vitamin C. lol.

(Packed with extra protein due to the milk powder). Should ideally be made with sturdy white bread as in the '60s. Serve with lunchroom milk (or sneak in some Koolaid), and a bowl of watered down tomato soup.

This all American brain food defeated the Soviets and sent our young kids the the moon (where they should have stayed). All the lunch ladies had to spend was their labor the federal government provided the food from surplus stocks.

Kevin,

You should go. Definitely. Don't think I've met Jeff McBride, but on the playa most people have 'playa names', so I could have and not known it. It's about 100 miles from Reno-you go out past Sparks about 20 miles and make a left turn at Wadsworth, then go north on 447 about 70 miles. I have a van conversion with a 20 gallon tank and also carry between 5-7 gallons for drinking(I don't trust the tank for potability-been awhile since I've sanitized it). But I usually come back with 2 gallons too.

check out this video I saw today [1]
