Has anyone else heard about the potential to have to issue 1099s to all corporations? What a headache that would be. [[1]] |

think of the additional income you could bill, though, Natalie. Enough for new bikes for everyone in the family! |

Several years ago I used to hope for a client (any client) to be audited so that I could use that money to pay for vacation. The audit income wasn't in my business projected budget, so if it came it was pure gravy. It has been awhile since I've had any real audits, though, so the vacations have not been quite as spectacular as the Alaskan cruise/ or the Paris trip with a tour of castles of the Loire/ or the London and Highlights of the UK (including Wales, Scotland and England)/ or Skiing in July in Bariloche, Argentina and Buenos Aires trips.
I'm ready for another big audit. I want to come back to Hawaii! |

Just had a state payroll exam on one of our clients. At the exit with the auditor, she said the state was going to become more aggressive on failure to file 1099s, and of course the enforcement of penalities for failure to file. |

Whatca mean, Because I have not been around? |

no, because you've just represented a client at an audit. cha-ching. |

Oh, I see.
I like the IRS Regional Seminars. Missed it this year. Usually go to the LV one, and it takes alot of cha-ching to stay there 4 or 5 days. The course/rooms/food are priced right, but the overhead is terrible. |

here is a hint: don't stay at the host hotel
if you don't have frequent user (comp card) status at any of the casino resorts, use Priceline. Go to Biddingfortravel.com and look up Las Vegas to see what other successful bids have been, then go to Amazing-Bargains.com, click on the priceline link (this gives click-thru revenue to Amazing Bargains, who sponsor the Biddingfortravel site) and place your bid. You probably won't get the same hotel as the seminar, but Vegas is a very walkable city, and for $2 or $3 you can ride the Deuce (double decker bus) each way.
Ya gotta know how to work the system. I've saved thousands of dollars in the last few years by using biddingfortravel.com and Priceline. |

We used gotoday.com (I'm pretty sure that's right, if not I'll look it up), last year for a trip to Paris. We had so much fun and the cost was under $3,000 for both of us for transfers, a hotel for one week in Paris and airfare for two from Kona. I made the reservations at a time when oil prices were going up so I called them direct to finalize arrangements. They were great, I referred them to a friend who did a similar trip to London out of LA. We both had a great time.
Personally, I look for the screwed up QuickBooks client to come along for extra cash, and new corporate returns. We're doing a Viking River Cruise in a few weeks starting in Amsterdam ending in Budapest. We are sooooo looking forward to it. I'm going to have to try the Biddingfortravel.com website. I've used Priceline a lot for cars and a few times for hotels. They're great for cars, but you really have to know the area for hotels because what they say is wonderful, might not be so great. For example we needed a room for a few days in the LA area this summer and since we grew up there, we kind of know certain areas are NOT where you want to be but the descriptions sounded really great. We ended up staying with some friends. Not sure what any of this has to do with Natalie's original post about 1099's, but Kevin, we'd love to see you in Hawaii again, there are deals galore. |

that's the beauty of biddingfortravel.com, Actionbsns. They tell you what specific hotels have had winning bids in each star category in each section of town, so you can even click a link to get a hotel review. So if you know which areas of the town you DON'T want to be in, and which you DO, you can find out which zones they are in. For example, I'm heading up to Sonoma California area in November for a California Society of Enrolled Agents seminar that I will be presenting my Ethics Jeopardy session in. While in the area, I'm taking an extra 4 nights and seeing more of San Francisco. SF has several hotel zones, so I was able to pick the top choices and bid using the free-bid permutation system that biddingfortravel.com teaches you, to get a 3 1/2 star hotel in the Fisherman's Wharf district for less than I'd pay retail for a 2 star hotel in the same area. |

You're going where I moved away from!! We lived in Santa Rosa for 20 years and San Francisco for about 10 years. Great areas!! I hear they've repaired the De Young Museum now and they are supposed to be getting world class exhibits again. You might check out what's there now. After the Loma Prieta earthquake back in the late 80's, it was badly damaged and they couldn't get insurance for the really good exhibits. Anyway, it will be fun. I rarely get to go to California and have fun anymore, well, seeing my kids is always fun, but not the same as when you are playing tourist. |

Boy, are you out of touch there in Hawaii! <grin> They've completely re-built both the DeYoung and the Academy of Science...the latter is particularly wonderful!
When Kevin's here, I believe the DeYoung will have Impressionist paintings from the D'Orsay (Paris) Museum, which is being renovated. Kevin, if you'd like to meetup (or need a guide), please leave me a message on my talk page. |

Creative excuse from client: "I didn't send him a 1099 because that's his business."
She still hasn't sent me his SS number. |

oh, le Musee D'Orsay's collection is magnifique! Went to see it when I was last in Paris. And 2 years ago while in SF, I did visit the DeYoung. I want to go see the new museum in Ashbury Park - what is the name of it? I didn't get to see it last time. |
Wonder Woman USA (talk|edits) said: | 5 October 2009 |
Asbury Park? Isn't that in New Jersey or somewhere? |
Actionbsns (talk|edits) said: | 7 October 2009 |
I assumed Kevin meant Ashbury Park. But since I haven't lived in SF for a long time, I'm not sure there is one, just the famous corner of Haight/Ashbury which was never really all that interesting. But things change.
Kevin, you do have to take a moment to check out my favorite house in the whole world. It's in the Marina District, just before the approach to the bridge. You'll see the Palace of Fine Arts, sorry I don't remember the street name, but the Palace is a hard place to miss. On the edge of the grounds is this spectacular house with a relatively small yard, then a hedge, then the entire grounds of the Palace. The best part is the beautiful location and the owner has to do NOTHING to keep it beautiful and enjoy the view. It overlooks the pond with the building just right there. Anyway, it ought to give you a fun time driving around the area with a purpose. Chestnut Street and Union Street are also right there nearby for a good walk and a good meal. |
