| my client received a 1099-C Form it was a short Sale now he diden know he owes alot of money is that correct never done one before

| Chri2710, I'm in Hawaii so I'm pretty much always the last one to be taking a look here in the morning. Kevin must be at church or asleep, not sure which. First, welcome to TA, we always welcome newbies and most of us are really friendly and helpful. A lot of us are knowledgeable and helpful, and a few of us are tremendously knowledgeable and friendly. That said, you have hit on two things near and dear to a lot of hearts here. First, if you complete your profile, you will find more people more willing to provide an answer.
Second you are asking about a topic that has been discussed extensively here and we have one of the best responders to these questions, Dave Fogel. He's given of his time and knowledge tremendously. Use the little yellow button to the left and type in 1099C and you will be amazed at the response. Once you have gone through those responses, you will either know what you need to do, or you will have formed a better question. Last weekend I spent two days reading on this topic and much of it was reading TA responses then going off to read other stuff. It's not an easy topic, but is one that is not unique to this forum. Good luck. And, BTW, your question is probably best posted as a Tax Question. People get chatty on this section and tend to let off steam here. | |
