| Can anyone refer a good study course to become an Enrolled Agent? Any other advise on this topic would be appreciated. | |

| I am extremely impressed with Gleim's interactive course. This course basically doesn't waste your time reviewing things you already know, but if you know absolutely nothing, the course will force you to learn what you need to know. I used his course to pass the CPA exam right out of school when the CPA exam was about 50% essay. Everyone I have recommended to Gleim has passed the EA exam with wide margins. | |

| What about Becker Review? Can it be used for EA exam although it's target is CPA.
I took that 13 years ago, not sure how much improvement since then.

| ALso wanted to give Spark1960 a link to try IRS online EA exam (compiled by Natl Assoc of Tax Professional, under Education): | |

| I used Gleim for the EA exam this year. It was very good for the busniness section, though it missed a few items for the personal section. I'm taking Part 3 next week. | |

| I took the third and final exam on Procedures and again passed on first attempt.
The Gleim program is great, but you really need to allocate time on a daily basis to studying.

| back when i took the ea exam in 95......i bought a real simple program which had the last 4 years tests on it broken down by section. You will see alot of the same questions or similar questions over and over (at least u did in 95). It tracked your progess, let you just take the questions you keep missing, and it also gave you not just the answer but the logic too. Seems like i didnt spend that much time with it..........passed 3 parts the first time which allowed me to come back and just retake the part i missed in 96. It was a cheap program, cant remember the name, seems like it was about 30 bucks. | |

| I purchased NSA review books, and found them to be very good. | |

| Arthur Reed with Lambers EA Review got me through all 4 parts (3 now) the first time. And no, the CPA Exam stuff won't quite get you through the EA review. I got to meet Arthur Reed in person out in Vegas, cool guy with the heart of a teacher, I would have paid 3 times the price to do the course, it was way worth it, you'll have a great shot at passing with the course. | |

| In later winter I will begin preparing for the EA Exam, I have no tax background in taxation (career transition). Will the Gleim materials be sufficient for preparing for the exam without prior experience / knowledge? If no, should I try to take a course that specializes in personal taxation. I was considering getting the self study course from NATTAX but I don't want to waste money if the Gleim course would be sufficient.
Thank You | |

| The Gleim course is brilliant. Do that one + read various IRS publications. Should be enough.
Good luck! | |

| Gleim has partnered with NAEA to use the Gleim materials and also use NAEA instructors to answer questions during live chat periods. I do not know all the details but you can go to the NAEA website - www.naea.org - and click on the "want to become an EA" box on the left side of the home page. | |

| If i buy Gleim's EA review materials now, can i use it on the exam starting May 2009? | |
| 27 December 2008 | |
| well, it said the publication is a 2008 edition but it also state that the material will guarantee good for 12 months. so i am not sure can i use it or not. may be i should wait for the 2009 edition. | |

| I used Phoenix Tax www.phoenixtax.com and was satisfied. No other materials were necessary.
Make SURE that the course you take is good for your exam cycle!

| I did have some 2007 questions in my 2008 SEE... If you know the basis and "about the right" amounts + various form numbers then you'll be fine with whatever edition. I did the study material from the Thomas Tax Seminars, and I had absolutely no US tax experience when I first began (I did work with a CPA and we did around 250 tax returns before my SEE. IMO only studying is not enough, you need experience as well). The whole thing took me one year (and I am still learning!). | |

| I just recently took the first part of the EA exam and passed the first time. I used the books/software from WiseGuides. They're cheaper than the Gleim study material. | |

| Order all the IRS publications by mail, and study them. That's the way the scholar does it. Abraham Lincoln passed his EA exam by studying in front of a log fire. | |

| I remember using Wiseguides years ago. Also, get some kind of practice software. | |

| Gleim is kind of pricey. Really pricey, in fact, compared with Wise or Phoenix Tax. But judging from Gleim's CPE courses, their EA prep course must be very, very good, so maybe you get what you pay for. | |
| 1 September 2009 | |
| I used National Association of Tax Practitioners (NATP) materials and then took their live course. I passed the exam at the first sitting. | |
| 4 September 2009 | |
| I tried Gleim for Part 1 but didn't stick at the studying enough. Then I used Eva Rosenberg's course at http://irsexams.com/. She keeps it interesting and fun. | |

| I took a looooong break between the first part and second part. I studied for about 2 weeks using the Wiseguides and passed the second part on the first try last Thursday and I'm taking the last part this coming up Thursday. | |
| 20 January 2010 | |
| I am currently studying for Part 3 using Eva Rosenberg's course at [1] . I have retained so much more information than just reading through he publications or studying the Gleim book/CD-ROM. I highly recommend it.

| I just took a job with HRB and used their online material it proved to be extremely helpful and alot of questions on their material was directly on the exam. Not only that they paid me to study. | |
| 22 January 2010 | |
| Curious, EA Rob, did HRB 'debrief' you after you took the exam? Ask you to recall what you were tested on? | |
| 22 January 2010 | |
| not at all in fact they have not paid me back for taking the tests yet. They also are failing to bump up my pay scale or offer anything resembling compensation. If they were to debrief me, after this treatment I would not offer any responses to them.
I know I sound sour but not one of the promises has been kept yet.

| Crow,
Actually I have very stong opinions about mr vick. One of the reasons I can't stand the Eagles. I volunteer with a local pit bull rescue and I have 2 pits and a giant rott. Hence the name. By the way, your posts crack me up. NMex, Her prices have come down since the testing period is almost gone. so you would have to check the website. I think you can purchase the class for one part at a huge discount. You get the Gleim book and CD and her own CD to take prep tests.
| 22 January 2010 | |
| Just curious. I passed in the 2007-2008 window with Phoenix Tax materials.
I suspect that Kevin is asking about "debriefing" because examinees agree not to disclose any exam questions. If HRB is playing that game, it could be a problem.

| Crow, Sorry that I am not Vick, or that your posts crack me up? My 22 year old daughter also thinks your posts are hilarious. You have brought a smile to my face on many occassions, so I thank-you! | |
| 22 January 2010 | |
| I did see a number of questions on part II from the HRB training material. | |
| 22 January 2010 | |
| No, I'm glad you're not Michael Vick. lol. Sometimes, I come off the rails trying to help all the sinners around here, and I can't help what I write. It's my training as a part-time assistant preacher I think. Once the Lord gets ahold of you and shakes you good, it's understandable that your brain shorts out from time to time. I blew all my fuses long ago, and I'm subject to frequent shortouts. | |
