Many people have requested that a spell check feature be added to TaxAlmanac. While we don't yet have this built-in to the website, I wanted to let you know that the newly released version 2.0 of the Firefox web browser has spell check built in!

Here is what it looks like when using Firefox. As you type, any words which are not recognized are underlined in red. If you right-click over an underlined word, you can select from other suggested words or can add the word to your personal dictionary.

Although I am not advocating that you switch to Firefox, I wanted to let everyone know that this was available. You can download and install Firefox from their website.

Note: Firefox is an alternative to the Internet Explorer web browser that comes default with Microsoft Windows. A new version of IE was also just released, but I do not yet know if it has spell check built in or not. We have had some reports of issues when TaxAlmanac is viewed with IE 7, so we are currently recommending that you not upgrade to IE 7 yet.

Would you please let us know when we can download IE 7? I'm guessing that once the issue is straightened out for TaxAlmanac, it'll be fixed for all of Intuit's products. Is that correct?

I wouldn't say I prefer it -- it's just what I happen to have and what I'm used to using.

I prefer IE because I can get to the hard drive folders and files from IE, and I doubt that I can do that using Firefox.

Are you referring to File - Open, and then selecting a local file? You can do that in Firefox.

Doesn't the latest version of IE now have a spell-check feature as well? If not, I found iespell and the Google Toolbar have spell checkers for IE. You might try them, but I can't vouch for how well they work.

No, I'm referring to switching to Windows Explorer from the URL line of the browser. I'm not sure if IE or any of the toolbars have spell checkers, because I've never used spell checkers. And I've never installed any of the toolbars and refuse to do so.
