How current are the code and regs links within the Tax Almanac website? Can one reasonably depend on the material to be accurate and in current status?

Thanks!

If you need to be any more accurate than this place, your information cost is exceeding the value of your anticipated output. In other words, we're good enough for government work.

The update status of the code is shown on the IRC index page - specifically, "The version of the Internal Revenue Code posted on TaxAlmanac has been updated and is current only through mid 2007." So if you're reasonably familiar with actions Congress has taken since then, you're probably going to be able to work with them (which is pretty much what Crow said, I guess!).

If you notice any idiosyncracies, please note them on the feedback forum (e.g., here's an issue noted by a user last year - some "temporary" updates are listed below the main part of the code). BTW, if you have input on whether you like/dislike or agree/disagree with that treatment of temporary updates, please post to that discussion.

The regs are somewhat older and Tim (moderator) has indicated that they're planning to re-load all the regs using the most current official version sometime soon, which'll also fix the formatting issue seen on some of the longer ones.

C'mon, act like a pro, and drop a dime or two on professional research library.

Okay JR1, acting like a pro isn't the issue. I am used to using RIA Checkpoint - the very best in my opinion! Problem is my current law firm doesn't subscribe to it as the bulk of biz here is insurance litigation not taxation, a real downer. I have access to Westlaw's Pro USCA database but it is horribly cumbersome when it comes to tax research - uhggggg! I actually like the format here on Tax Almanac but needed some assurance as to current status of code and regs. I am not sure I have a very good sense yet based on these postings.

I do thank Trillium for the best remarks so far. Thank you Trill !!!

OK, Gt, we'll just call your buds tightwads, then! So many 'pros' come here and have NO research products, totally scary...and they think the pubs will do! I only use pubs for getting Guiness.

Thanks for the link CrowJD. I called them for a trial subscription. Sounds interesting. I appreciate you taking time to make the suggestion.
