I am planning to purchase the proseries tax software for the first time this year.

Do they usually run any offers or specials? Currently they don’t have any offers, and I am wondering if I should wait. thanks

A couple of 6 foot 3", 300lb guys in suits showed up in my office last year and made me an offer I couldn't refuse. I was pleased with the software, but I did not feel good about getting my face rearranged in the process. I say, get your software early and don't wait for a visit from these corporate gorillas.

Call them and ask for a new client discount ... I'm serious about this!

Proseries is from Intuit, same fellows who sell Lacerte. Current users will be offered a discount at renewal time .. I'm sure Proseries has something similar, and the salespeople seem to be pretty free in offering or extending it, so they should also be able to do so with new clients.

Just a question for you, Haz48076 -- do you have enough clients to buy the entire program? Or will you be using this on a pay per return basis?

i use UltraTax on PRP for business but looking for an affordable and good 1040 program. i think i am going to go with Proceries basic for the next season

I used TaxWise last tax season. When I called Intuit about ProSeries yesterday, the sales person told me they are offering a 50% discount for switching from TaxWise to ProSeries. They may have similar offers for switching from other programs. I don't see why not, either way they are getting a new client.

Got to love Intuit. Offering people 50% off to switch from another program while their renewing customers got a price increase of 50% in basic and 30% in professional. The only discounts they were offering for renewing were $50 for basic and $100 for professional. So they lost my business this year.

You can probably get them to toss in unlimited returns for prior years if you can purchase. I did!

Yes, he said that the software is included back to 2001. It looks like a pretty good deal to me, at least for this year. Hopefully they won't double the price next year.

Florida - I am with you. I have not made any decisions yet, but pretty big price increase for no big jump in features.

I'm thinking about going with ProSeries for my new tax business. My question is, is there a big difference between the new customer price and the renewal price, for any given year? (I understand that there was a big price jump from '08 to '09.)

So, for example, ProSeries Basic Unlimited is going for $649 right now, and Professional 1040 Complete is $1299. What's the renewal price, for those of you who are renewing?

(Basically, I want to know if the price they're offering new customers this year is a "teaser" price, or if renewal customers are being offered the same price.)

Thanks!

Actually, I just spoke with ProSeries and got my question answered. The prices for new customers and renewal customers are the same, though there may be early-season renewal discounts available. The website is also currently showing $50-100 discounts for new customer purchases.
