| I'm a CPA working full-time at a local school trying to start my own business on the side so I can quit my day job. I have a new client that travels a lot so it's hard for him to find time to meet with me to drop off his monthly stuff. He is self-employed and has just formed an LLC and has an S-Corp and is making $500,000+ per year. He is wanting to give me a key to his PO box and basically let me get his bank statments, credit card statement, calculate payroll taxes, do the debit for payroll taxes, do monthly P&L. etc. I'm thinking this could be my big break. This guy can and is willing to pay me very well for this. Does anyone think this could cause some problems? I know I'm not going to be independent, but won't be doing an audit or review for him. I'm not sure what the going rate for this kind of service is so I'm trying to figure that out also. When I prepared his tax return this year, he gave me an extra $500 so I know that he won't complain about what I charge him and will probably pay me more than what I charge him.
Anyone had any experience with this type of accounting work? Thanks.

| I know that when the little old biddies pay me extra after I prepare their tax return, they are always wanting a little bit more, a pinch here, a grab there. Not saying it's the same here, but man, those old biddies are feisty. Yanno, it's making me hope tax season gets here quicker than it's taking. | |

| My previous partner had an initial client who was both an MD and an attorney, specializing in medical malpractice. His wife was a working actress. They traveled constantly. Their maid picked up the mail each day and left it on the kitchen table. My partner had a key and would pick things up a couple of times a week. He left behind junk mail (its own container), household and personal bills (its own container) and brought back bank statements, broker statements, and copies of the business check register from their home office. At the end of the month he would return the bank statements, correct the balance in their check register, drop off the compiled financials and place the bank and broker statements in the home office filing cabinet. We used email and cell phones to contact the couple as needed.
We did not pay any of the bills directly but did make out checks for tax payments and leave on his desk for signature. My partner had this client as long as they lived, billed his highest rate for all his time including travel and bills were always paid without question.
