Hi all.....I spent the summer trying to determine where I wanted to go with my career and have finally made a decision. I turned down an offer for partner status within 2 years with an established firm. Even though the money was great I can't see working 80 hours/week and missing my kid's activites which they said I would. I'm used to too much freedom with working from home. I am partnering with another CPA who was to the point of turning down clients.

I need to spend the next few months getting up to speed on auditing & tax since I was mainly doing month ends & consulting. Can someone lead me in the right direction. I got a brochure weeks ago with different courses but can't find it and can't find anything on the web either. Any suggestions would help.

If you want to brush up on tax basics, most of the companies that sell the annual tax manuals (CCH Master Tax Guide, RIA, Kleinrock) offer self-study courses. Also, check the AICPA website. They have webcams and a lot of self-study courses. PPC (Practitioners Publishing Company) is also a good source. I don't know where you are located. I'm in Texas. Texas A&M puts on some good update seminars each year for tax as does a firm out of McAllen TX. Their updates are called "Back to Basics".

Hope this helps a little. I also have 2 kids and wouldn't go back to a firm for the same reason. I don't want to miss them growing up.
