That new warning about non-professionals at the top of the page; what is really good is that it does not smack of the elitist approach but gives hope of help.

Who has the authority to do the moving?

also notice what Tim replaced by putting that notice there.

D&T is quick! I just added the notice at the top informing users that this is for pros only. I also added a notice when people create a new account informing them that the site is for professionals, but in case non-pros still get in, their questions can be moved to the new forum. I've asked Trillium and KevinH to help with moving such discussions for now, but if things work out, we can allow others to move them as well. Posts from obvious non-pros should be moved, but once in a while a really good informative question is asked which I'll leave it up to the community if they'd rather have it here. Also, questions from users who have not filled out their profiles to indicate they are professionals or not are a gray area. I'd rather not move all of these discussions, especially if they sound as though a pro wrote them. However, if a user has been asked several times to fill out their profile, has not done so, and their questions are not obviously from a pro, then I say those could be moved as well.

Thoughts?

So is the intent:

(1) For those questions to go to the other forum and die, or

(2) For us to go there and answer if we feel the urge, or

(3) For the blind to lead the blind?

I like it - it caught my attention immediately.

No discussions in there, yet....

Thanks, Tim.

Fixer, depending on time constraints (and brain drain), I'll probably read the "pro" forum first, then move on to the consumer one....to answer when I can.

IRSfixer, the intent is to allow a specific place for consumer questions so that the tax pros who do not wish to be bothered by them don't have to look. Anyone wanting to look can view ALL including CONSUMER discussions. Those that don't just view Tax or Accounting questions. This has been requested for the past 2 years and is in the interest of all.

Both the kittens and the fast elephants approve.

Right - more or less like IRSFixer's choice 2.

And posts could get moved out of the consumer forum, and back into the forum they were originally posted in, if it becomes clear that the user is actually a tax professional (e.g., profile gets completed, question gets clarified).

Irsfixer:

Since TaxAlmanac's intended audience is for professional tax preparers, we'd rather non-professionals ask their questions elsewhere (such as on TurboTax's discussion forums, for example). This is why I have now added such a statement to the account creation page (thank you Uncle Sam! While you may not have intended to, one of your posts actually gave me an idea on how I could get this implemented.) We all know that some non-pro posts will still get posted, and rather than being rude or deleting the posts (which will then lead to additional posts asking where they have gone), we've created the Consumer Forum where these messages can be moved. It's up to each member to choose if they want to go there to look and answer the questions.

We should stand firm together..........

No Profile No response.

That will help also.

So nonprofessionals who insist on posting a question here will get the pink slip.

I don't want you to think that I do not think this is a good idea - because I do. I was just curious about how it might work.
