| If a non-spouse is the designated beneficiary and inherits a traditional IRA, does the IRA beneficiary get stepped up basis for appreciation of the pre-tax assets prior to death of the decedent or is it taxed same as it would have been to the decedent? Thank you. | |

| Your second supposition is correct. This is IRD, Income in respect to the Decedent. However, check the rollover possibilities created by the PPA of 2006. | |
