| I know this has been discussed before - we are having a disagreement in my office and looking for your experience / feedback / and printed support (or a location link to the backup) for the people that need to have it proven to them (you know who you are :-))
1. For e-filed income tax returns (1120, 1065 & 1040 1041, 706 & 709) - can the 8879 [E,I,C,S,F] use a printed preparer / rubber stamp"signature" OR does it have to be in "INK" as a manual written signature? 1A. Is the requirement the same for payroll tax returns? 2. For paper filed returns - same q? is a computer generated signature OK or do the returns need to be "signed" in ink? | I was just looking at the 1120S T/R booklet under "Who Must Sign." At the bottom of that section it states that a paid preparer may sign original or amended returns by rubber stamp, mechanical device, or computer software program. May want to check other Tax Return directions (1040, 1065, etc.) in "Who May Sign" area to see what they say. | |

| What if it's a 1040x, the preparer's name and PTIN are printed, does the preparer still has to sign? if the taxpayer signed and the preparer did not, will the TP get in trouble? thanks. | |
