| Anyone else bothered by Lacerte v Turbotax? I'm a CPA paying approx $3500 per year for tax software (Lacerte software is great) and the company, Intuit uses that money to actively market Turbotax; expressly stating in their advertisements that there is no need for a tax preparer. Does this make anyone else angry, or am I just reaching?

| As a CPA you should not be looking for the "easy" stuff that Turbotax type clients tend to be. If you just want t/r's that it takes an hour or so to complete then your looking for the bottom section of the market and are under utilizing your skills. You can always research for a lesser program that has fewer capabilities or select more difficult tax clients that make it all worth your while.

| Not a bit. TT actually brought me a client recently. They had omitted rental property from their return for several years. TT interview didn't ask about rentals. Of course not, they had naively bought TT basic that isn't designed to handle rentals. -- Larry Hess, CPA, Albuquerque, NM - Talk to me

| I use Proseries but have a copy of TT on my computer; I have at least four clients who submit files on CDs or even by email. Two I simply review, suggest corrections and let them file them, charging them only for review. The others I re-do and sign: Except for the frist year, I do not use import function because they rarely correct their TT version for changes I might make. Two nights ago the first came in, a review one which was perfect except the preparer had checked the 'not at risk' block on Sch C and lost his loss [an author and speaker college professor type]. The loss came from travel costs of writing his current book. I emailed him to change the block, telling him he would have a pleasant surprise....made a $100 fee for about a half hour of work.
